How to Get 1000+ Followers (Meet and Greet)

Just starting a blog? Want more followers?

One of the best kept secrets in terms of finding new followers is to announce your blog in meet and greet posts like this one.

I'm a voracious blog reader. I monitor the titles of thousands of articles per day in various formats for new ideas for this site.

Post a comment and link to your blog and if it's not an automated spam blog or something too unsavory I'll follow and stop by. Chances are others of my 1,000+ followers will find you here too.

Other ways to increase awareness of your blog:

  • Write only interesting posts you want to share with 1,000+ people

  • Write to help others

  • Use short catchy concise titles

  • The first sentence or two must make people want to keep reading

  • Take a real interest in your followers

  • Follow other blogs

  • Read and enjoy others blogs

  • Interact, leave comments and likes (Use unambiguously supportive comments and questions. People want to complain, not change. It's a karma thing.)

  • Use social media, Facebook has killed the Internet (Link)

  • Giveaways

  • Create a Meme (Book/Hash Tag)

Search other blogs in the WordPress reader for helpful tips with each of these.

Nice to meet you. Welcome to the WordPress blogging world. At 1,000 followers, you'll see something like this:

  1. I came by your blog last night, Xeno, and found it full of all sorts of fascinating stuff. You give good advice here, most of which I follow. But being an IT neanderthal, I am still getting my head around the whole meme/hash tag thing.

    1. I never liked the word “meme” but I think it’s an interesting cultural thing and hashtags I think of as topic channels, if that helps. Just by adding the tag to your post you get into that topic channel.

    1. It’s a fun hobby. In my case blogging is watching the world events for helpful or entertaining oddities to post. Before Facebook ate the Internet I had amazing traffic. One day in the millions. Ah, the good old days. 😉

The address in your profile leads to a deleted blog. Are you still blogging?

      1. I’m still blogging. I changed its name to My worlds in Reading. In my header, though, I call it Worlds of Reading. I blog about books and libraries.

      2. Ah, so if you want, you could edit your profile and update to that new address and people will be able to reach your blog from your comments. 🙂 on the iPhone App, its under Me (icon at bottom) | Account Settings | Web Address

  2. What a nice idea of a meet and greet! Only recently found your site but I’m a fan of anything odd, mysterious, and monstrous. Love catching up on the weird world. Thanks for the follow. Cheers

    1. You’ve got some fun monsters on your blog, enjoying it. Have you seen the field guide to extraterrestrials? It’s a great little book with sketches from real sightings of what people said they saw and some are very different from what people typically think of the little Grey aliens.

    1. I think of hashtags as primarily for other social media to bring people to a site. There are plug-ins if you use the WordPress platform on your own host (called sites). I have one of each type. is (cheapest plan to let me use my own domain name) and is a site I change as I want without any restrictions (you have to be your own tech support, or get a hoast like WP Engine which does some admin for you.)

These days there are other options besides WordPress. I work with Squarespace, Wix, BandZoogle, and others, but like WordPress for many reasons. The Topic Tags I’ve added on (Desktop version) are close to hashtags, but not really, because they only filter results based on what is on my site. A proper hashtag plug-in for WordPress would show articles from everyone’s blog based on tags. I think that would be a great idea. Anyone know of such a thing in the works? There actually is something like this in the WordPress Reader. You can try it here to see if your site is showing up in searches.

    1. Great idea! Fitbit had a popular thing going where you could share your number of steps and exercise with friends and family and have little challenges between friends. I enjoyed that once, but kept losing the little things.

  3. Hi there, i blog about lady motircycle riders, our vacays with our Harleys. I also love books amoungst other things. Please check it out!
