20131003-221217.jpgCameras roll as authorities try to take control of the woman who first tried to breach White House security before heading to the Capitol.A woman who tried to force her car through a White House security fence Thursday afternoon was shot and killed by police after a 12-block chase past the Capitol, which was locked down for a half-hour, authorities said.

The suspect had a 1-year-old child with her who was not hurt, police said. One Secret Service officer was struck by the woman’s car, and a Capitol Police officer was injured when he slammed into a barricade during the pursuit.

All the shots fired came from law-enforcement and the woman did not have a gun, sources said. “She was using the car as a weapon,” one source said.

Dramatic video showed officers with guns drawn surrounding the woman’s black Infiniti before she suddenly sped away. Several shots could then be heard as cops took off after her.

“This appears to be an isolated singular matter with no nexus to terrorism,” Capitol Police Chief Kim Dine said at an evening news conference.

President Barack Obama was briefed about the harrowing incident, which came in the midst of the government shutdown that has created a tense atmosphere on Capitol Hill.

It started at 2:18 p.m. when the woman tried and failed to breach a White House checkpoint, a temporary “outer perimeter” fence at 15th St. and E, officials said.

The next one clears it up, but who ever said she fired shot?

A Connecticut woman with a small child in her car tried to ram into a White House barricade Thursday, then led authorities on a chase to the U.S. Capitol, where she was fatally shot, police said.

She has been identified as 34-year-old Miriam Carey of Stamford, Conn.

The incident began at about 2:30 p.m. at the White House gates at 15th and E streets NW. Police say Carey had attempted to ram a temporary security barrier outside the White House with her car, then struck a Secret Service uniformed division officer. She then fled the scene, leading police on a chase.

Video submitted to NBC Washington by AlhurraTV shows the woman’s car surrounded by officers with their guns drawn in Garfield Circle, just outside the Capitol. Carey bashes into a barricade, backs up, and then drives away. …

Initial reports said Carey had exited her vehicle and fired shots — sources now tell News4 Carey was not armed and did not fire any shots. D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier said Capitol Police and Secret Service fired their weapons. …

Carey had worked as a dental hygienist in Hamden, Conn. Her former boss said she was very “headstrong,” but he said nothing about her would have led him to think something “like this” would happen.

He said Carey had fallen down stairs and suffered head trauma. After returning to work from that injury, he said Carey had a “chip on her shoulder” and was too rough with some patients. She was fired in 2012.

Late Thursday evening, police prepped to search Carey’s Stamford apartment.
