The reason to venture out into space is to prevent the complete extinction of our species in the event of a cataclysmic space rock impact. There are billions of us now, but all of our eggs are in one basket. A big enough asteroid hitting the earth would be an unsolvable ecological challenge. Our entire earthly ecosystem could be obliterated. We need a backup planet.

Maybe Mars is Earth in 40 years?

Maybe we're hopping back and forth to allow recovery of the devastated ecosystem we leave behind?

Except this time around, Mars didn't survive to go back home to?

Gives a whole new meaning to 'Terror Forming'.

Night, night children!

Maybe Mars was the first disposable planet before we came here?

We already have a paradise with ideal conditions for life and yet spend more money and effort on space projects to venture out into the unknown and colonise other planets than it would take to solve all of our ecological challenges, should our attention be focused rather closer to home.

All this talk of global warming, (whether true or untrue, man made or part of a natural cycle), yet how often do you hear about tree planting as a solution?

Astonishingly, burning wood as a renewable energy source is now being considered, when it's already scarce as a 'resource'.

You cannot 're-source' timber if you don't plant enough trees. As for burning them to generate electricity........?
