Fox News hacker tweets Obama dead

Posted by Anonymous on July 5, 2011

Fox News twitter feedHackers have taken over a Twitter account belonging to US broadcaster Fox News and declared President Obama dead.

The @foxnewspolitics feed stated: “BREAKING NEWS: @BarackObama assassinated, 2 gunshot wounds have proved too much.”

More than two hours after the malicious postings appeared, they had still not been removed.

A group or individual, calling themselves The Script Kiddies appeared to claim responsibility.

Fox News said it was investigating the posts.

The bizarre messages began appearing around 07.00 BST on July 4.

The first read: “Just regained full access to our Twitter and email. Happy 4th.”

The next posting stated: “@BarackObama has just passed. The President is dead.”

Fox News Politics is one of the Twitter accounts associated with the industry-leading cable news network.

Its Twitter account carries the “verified” tick icon, indicating that the feed belongs to the organisation it claims to be.

In a statement, Jeff Misenti, vice president and general manager of Fox News Digital said: “We will be requesting a detailed investigation from Twitter about how this occurred, and measures to prevent future unauthorized access into FoxNews.com accounts.”

In among the messages about President Obama, a couple of tweets appeared from a user called The Script Kiddies. However, that account was quickly suspended.

The phrase “Script Kiddie” is internet slang for an inexperienced person who uses off-the-shelf hacking technology, developed by other people.

It is unclear why Fox News has been attacked in this instance. However, the broadcaster’s conservative stance has made it unpopular with many Americans. …

I don’t find this funny or cool. The Secret Service should find these kids and have a talk with them about how they just screwed up their entire lives by pulling what they thought was a cute stunt.

But what I do find funny, is the wording above which says that it is a “conservative stance” which has made Fox news unpopular with many Americans.

Is that the kind of “stance” where you distort the truth a lot? Personally, I think of a “conservative stance” as one where you conserve things… like “freedom” and “liberty”, “constitutional rights”, you know, stuff like that. Brandon Root has a post called “The 10 Most Ridiculous Fox News Lies, Creative Edits, and Half-Truths” which, in part, says:

… Unfortunately, there is nothing illegal with what Fox News does (well, kind of). In 2003, the Florida Court of Appeals agreed with Fox News that it is not illegal to distort or falsify the newsin the United States, but there is a lot of gray area. For example, the FCC has said in the past that rigging the news kind of bums them out, but they can’t do anything unless they receive “…documented evidence of such rigging or slanting. This kind of evidence could include testimony, in writing or otherwise, from ‘insiders’ or persons who have direct personal knowledge of an intentional falsification of the news.”

So basically if the FCC were to catch you and your brother handing out a flyer claiming in red crayon that “Sprinkles the cat is an evil communist,” when Sprinkles is in fact a simple, democracy loving cat, you can’t get into trouble unless your brother rats you out and tells the FCC that you knew Sprinkles wasn’t a communist when you put crayon-to-paper. If your brother stays tight-lipped about the whole thing, the FCC will just assume you were ignorant when it came to the correct political orientation of Sprinkles, so you weren’t really at fault, just stupid.

The only time the rules are not vague at all is if a news organization were “Knowingly broadcasting false information concerning a crime or a catastrophe.” So they can’t report that Barack Obama and a horde of gay black men are running naked through the streets setting cars on fire and aborting babies unless it were to actually happen.

But they’re really good at doing the next best thing, here are 10 of their more outrageous lies, creative edits, and half-truths …

the punch line is. Distorting the news is more traditional than neo conservatism.
Talking of abortion and setting cars on fire. There’s some old medical caricatures from a French medical magazine lurking somewhere on the net.
