Hi Xeno, this is my first post so i´ll start with some praises – I really like your blog, since i´ve discovered it (about two months ago) i drop by every day and i´ve been stunned this morning by the disturbance. I honestly thought you´ve been blocked due to something related to the wikileaks thing or whatever. :)

Anyway, this Antikythera-Artifact is impressive. My Mother lives in Greece and i drop by there (i´m from germany) occasionally, i´ve liked every archeological sites and museums i´ve been too (many). But this is extremely out of place, such a highly sophisticated machine. It must have been of tremendous value and its interesting that it isn´t mentioned in any writings (is it?). I don´t know much about the common sense in ancient greece in terms of knowledge about astronomical recurrences, but it could be used by high priests/oracles to impress the masses. Or to assure them. hehe.

So, first post (literally), greetings and keep up the good work. amazing site.

      Thanks Neo,

Welcome to the land of posters. At first I was thinking my invisible protectors in high places were ambushed by a coup or something. Pretty freaky. I was in shock for several hours (My cell phone’s near death combined with this made it seem even more sinister since I couldn’t reach anyone.)

I know of no writings, but perhaps they were lost when the library at Alexandria was destroyed?

Calculating and being able to predict the motion of the planets was an amazing feat. Makes you wonder what other lost technology may be found someday….
