Hoax: Study: Stare at boobs for longer life + The fourth orientation

Posted by Xeno on December 6, 2009

http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/uncyclopedia/images/thumb/d/d6/Boobies.jpg/350px-Boobies.jpgA rather bizarre study carried out by German researchers suggests that staring at women’s breasts is good for men’s health and increases their life expectancy.

According to Dr. Karen Weatherby, a gerontologist and author of the study, gawking at women’s breasts is a healthy practice, almost at par with an intense exercise regime, that prolongs the lifespan of a man by five years. She added, “Just 10 minutes of staring at the charms of a well-endowed female, is roughly equivalent to a 30-minute aerobics work-out.”

A five-year research on 500 men
Researchers at three hospitals in Frankfurt, Germany did an in-depth analysis of 200 healthy males over a period of five years. Half the volunteers were instructed to ogle at the breasts of women daily, while the rest were told to refrain from doing so.

At the close of the study, the researchers noted that the men who stared at the breasts of females on a regular basis exhibited lower blood pressure, slower resting pulse rates and lesser episodes of coronary artery disease.

Sexual desire linked to better blood circulation
The researchers declared that sexual desire gives rise to better blood circulation that signifies an overall improved health.

Weatherby explained the concept stating, “Sexual excitement gets the heart pumping and improves blood circulation. There’s no question: Gazing at breasts makes men healthy.

“Our study indicates that engaging in this activity a few minutes daily cuts the risk of stroke and heart attack in half. We believe that by doing so consistently, the average man can extend his life four to five years.”

In addition, she also recommended that men over 40 should gaze at larger breasts daily for 10 minutes.

The German research is believed to be published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

This may explain why women live longer, since they spend more time looking at boobs (their own) over the course of their lives. ;-)

But… I’m confused about something… to increase their lifespans, at what would the Asexuals stare?

…. if it exists as a fourth orientation, true asexuality would be due neither to genetic anomaly or environmental assault; although little is known about its etiology (Bogaert believes it may be traced to prenatal alterations of the hypothalamus), by all appearances most asexual people are normal, healthy, hormonally balanced and sexually mature adults who, for still uncertain reasons, have always found sex to be one big, bland yawn.Asexuality would therefore be like other sexual orientations in the sense that it is not “acquired” or “situational,” but rather an essential part of one’s biological makeup. But the story of asexuality is very complicated. For example, as discussion on the AVEN (Asexuality and Visibility Education Network) website forums demonstrate, there is tremendous variation in the sexual inclinations of those who consider themselves to be asexual. Some masturbate, some don’t. Some are interested in nonsexual, romantic relationships (including cuddling and kissing but no genital contact), while others aren’t. Some consider themselves to be “hetero-asexual” (having a nonsexual aesthetic or romantic preference for those of the opposite sex), while others see themselves as “homo-” or “bi-asexuals.”

Yet many asexuals are also perfectly willing to have sex if it satisfies their sexual partners; it’s not awkward or painful for them but rather, like making toast or emptying the trash, they just don’t personally derive pleasure from the act. Others insist on being in completely sexless relationships, possibly with other asexuals. Thus, while many asexuals are virgins, others are ironically even more experienced than your traditionally sexual friends. – thestar

Okay, this study is a hoax. According to Snopes:

The article referred to above was not printed in The New England Journal of Medicine or any other major medical journal. It is, in fact, a slight reworking of a piece that has run on at least two occasions in that celebrated tabloid Fountain of Truth, the Weekly World News (13 May 1997 and 21 March 2000) and has escaped into the wild. Although the Weekly World News occasionally slips up and prints a true story, we suspect this one belongs in the “HOW TO TELL IF YOUR DOG WORSHIPS SATAN!” and “NEW REMOTE-CONTROL DEVICE GIVES WOMEN ORGASMS — AT UP TO 80 YARDS AWAY!” class. – snopes

Record solar plane’s first ‘hop’

Posted by Xeno on December 6, 2009

Solar Impulse planeThe Solar Impulse prototype plane, part of a planned solar-powered circumnavigation of the globe, has left the ground for the first time.

The maiden flight was dubbed a “flea hop” by project leaders, at 350m in length and a height of just one metre.

The plane will now be transported to a different airfield for a flight of a few hours in March.

The final version of the plane will attempt a transatlantic flight in 2012 prior to the round-the-world trip.

The prototype first ventured outside a hangar in November, with a range of on-the-ground tests and a run-up of the plane’s motors.

Thursday’s flight, with test pilot Markus Scherdel at the controls, was the first time the plane had been brought to takeoff speed.

“The airplane flew the way we have experienced it in the simulators,” said Bertrand Piccard, a founder of Solar Impulse and the first person to carry out a round-the-world balloon flight.

“That’s of course a very big comfort for all the engineers who’ve worked for six years to build this airplane.”

The next flight, at the Payerne air force airfield in western Switzerland, will see the plane reach an altitude of nearly 9,000m.

Only after this flight will the plane make its first “solar flight” – that is, powered by the solar generators rather than the on-board batteries.

The team plans a flight of a full day and night in the summer of 2010, building up to a transatlantic flight in small steps as the crew ensure the plane’s behaviour is well-understood.

“It’s a completely new flight domain,” said Dr Piccard.

“It’s the first time in the history of aviation that an airplane so big and so light using so little energy gets in the air – basically everything is new.”

US agency’s balloon hunt tests internet accuracy

Posted by Xeno on December 6, 2009

Red balloons (image: Darpa)The US defence research agency has used 10 red balloons in a contest to assess the accuracy with which information spreads on the internet.

The giant moored weather balloons were launched on Saturday morning at 10 undisclosed locations across the United States.

More than 4,000 groups competed to be the first to pinpoint all 10.

A team from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Mit) won the challenge and a prize of $40,000 (£24,000).

Johanna Jones, a spokeswoman for the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (Darpa), said that beyond the actual contest, the aim was to see whether social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter should be seen as credible sources of information.

Darpa is no stranger to innovative uses of technology.

The agency – which is part of the US defence department – played a pivotal role in the creation of the internet itself.

That original network was created at the behest of the US government as a way to access and distribute information in the case of a catastrophic event.

Forty years on, with the internet in full swing, the same agency was keen to see if the power of social networking sites – with their tens of millions of users – could be used as a credible source to alert authorities of impending disaster or unrest on US soil.

Free Xeno Song: Get Off My Head

Posted by Xeno on December 6, 2009

After all these years I FINALLY figured out that I sing wrong about 80% of the time. What I’ve learned recently is that the nasal sound I hate so much is largely a result of my not putting the proper breath pressure behind my notes.  Now I’m going back and re-recording all of my vocals.

Check out my latest version of  “Get off My Head” (previously the worst vocally of  songs I’d posted here.) Now it is not so bad to my ear.  The songs with a “0″ in front of them were recorded since this new vocal discovery.

http://photos3.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/3/5/4/a/highres_5713642.jpegGet Off My Head
I could easily forget you if you’d just get off my head
In the apartment above there’s a girl just made to love me but love fled
Now she’s stomping around with some new boy she found
It paints my ceiling red
And I could easily forget her if she’d just get off my head

I could easily forget you if you’d let me sleep at night
I don’t want to know your business but it’s hard to hear you fight
And the power of the memory of the week or two we spent
And the urge to leave increases every time I pay the rent
And I could easily forget her if she’d just get off my head

Get off my head, there’s an angel feet above my bed, get off my…
Have a better level of decency
Would you wait a little while a week for me
You know I can’t forget

I could move into the country I could grow myself some wine
I could store it in the cellar I could sell it and grow rich in time
But I never will forget the girl upstairs and my delight
When I held her at the ocean on a cold romantic night
And I could easily forget her, but I won’t. It’s just not right.

Get off my head, there’s an angel feet above my head, get off my…
Have a better level of decency
Would you wait a little while a week for me
You know I can’t forget
You know I must forget.
