Cheney Says He Favors Limbaugh Over Powell as Model Republican

cheney.jpg cheney image by tubster2Former Vice President Dick Cheney said Republicans are better served by conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh than by former Secretary of State Colin Powell.

“My take on it was Colin had already left the party,” Cheney said on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” noting that Republican Powell endorsed President Barack Obama, a Democrat, during the 2008 presidential campaign. “I assumed that that is some indication of his loyalty.”

Cheney, 68, clashed with Powell, 72, a retired four-star general, over tactics in the war on terrorism during former President George W. Bush’s administration.

Asked if he would “take Rush Limbaugh over Colin Powell,” Cheney said, “I would.”

Limbaugh, whose radio talk show is heard on more than 600 radio stations, has been targeting Republicans in addition to his traditional Democratic opponents since conservatives suffered reverses national polls last November.

Limbaugh suggested in March that Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele commit suicide for presiding over Republican losses. He also criticized Powell’s endorsement of Obama, suggesting during his May 6 program that considerations of race had trumped politics. Obama and Powell are black. …

“The only reason to endorse Obama is race,” he said.

… In 2006, he accused actor Michael J. Fox, who suffers from Parkinson’s disease, of “exaggerating the effects” of the illness.

Limbaugh, 58, resigned from ESPN TV’s Sunday NFL Countdown pre-game show in 2003 after suggesting that Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterback Donovan McNabb, named to five Pro Bowl teams, “got a lot of credit for the performance of this team that he didn’t deserve,” at least in part because “the media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well.”

I find it curious that LAPD Narcotics officer Mike Ruppert collected evidence and wrote a book which says Cheney did 9/11.  How rich is Limbaugh? He lives in West Palm Beach, Florida according to wikipedia, but perhaps not any more.  Limbaugh’s home in Florida as of June 2006 was sold on 2/23/2007. It was last assessed at $24,660,084 on 2008 and is now for sale for 48 million dollars. Obviously not all home values are falling these days. Rush sure had a lot of bathrooms.  And a nice little walk down to the beach. He also has a condo in Manhattan (New York City).

Cheney can say whatever drivel that slithers out of his mouth; but I have rarely seen a person so completely allergic to the truth. Were Cheney a student of history (and so bloody few of the political class have even a clue about history), he would know that, from the time of the Spanish Inquisition, torture does only one thing and one thing only; it extracts confessions which are needed for a political agenda, because the tortured person will say anything they think will get the torture to stop.

‘Star Trek’: What did YOU think?

Posted by Xeno on May 10, 2009

Startrekspockpine_lSo, I’m assuming you’ve seen it by now, right? Otherwise, what kind of geek would you be? The kind of geek that gets their credentials revoked. J.J. Abrams’ reboot is well on its way to making a cargo hold full of cash in its opening weekend, and it has been leaving critics giddy with praise…

What did you think?

I just saw the new Star Trek movie and loved it. There was plenty of inside stuff for the real fans and also it makes a great stand alone movie even if you were never into Trek.

I got a seat in nearly the front row because it was almost sold out. I’ll go see it again when I don’t have to have such a warped view.

Prof wanted in killings found dead in Ga. woods

Posted by Xeno on May 10, 2009

Cadaver dogs found the body of a wanted professor “beneath the earth” in the north Georgia woods Saturday, two weeks after police say he shot his wife and two other people to death outside a community theater, then vanished.

Searchers found two guns near the body of marketing professor George Zinkhan, 57, but police wouldn’t say how he died. They did say it appears he buried himself in brush and dirt.

“A person who is not accustomed to the woods would never have found the body,” said Athens-Clarke County Police Chief Joseph Lumpkin.

Zinkhan disappeared after the April 25 shootings near the University of Georgia, where he’d had a spotless record since arriving to teach in the Terry College of Business in the 1990s.

Bulletins were issued nationwide and authorities kept watch on airports in case he tried to flee to Amsterdam, where he had taught part-time at a university since 2007. Federal authorities later revealed Zinkhan had a flight to Amsterdam booked before the shootings, but the professor never showed up at the airport on the May 2 departure date.

Instead, cadaver dogs found his body about 10 miles west of Athens in thick woods in Bogart, where he lived. Searchers — as many as 200 at one point — had been scouring the woods since his Jeep was found wrecked and abandoned in a ravine about a mile away a week ago. The guns found with him matched the description provided by people who witnessed the shootings.

Neighbor Bob Covington called Saturday’s discovery “another sad chapter to the story.” Zinkhan dropped off his children at Covington’s house after the shootings, saying there was an emergency. It was the last time anyone saw him alive.

“It’s been two weeks of people being on pins and needles, every time you see a police car,” Covington said. “I think this will ease a lot of tension. People can get back to their lives and move on from this horrible tragedy.”

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab confirmed later Saturday that the body was Zinkhan.

Reached by phone at her home in Baltimore, his mother, Mary, said she was aware he’d been found.

“I’ve heard that news,” she said. “I have nothing to say about it.”

Why won’t they say how he died? Perhaps it is simply to spare his kids the trauma of it. I wonder, however, having always enjoyed Sherlock Holmes stories, if this murderer killed himself in a way that makes him difficult to identify. Based on the fact that he told his class not to worry about finals, it seems like he may have been planning this for some time. As a brilliant marketing expert, he may have devised some deception with a body similar to his own. Not likely, but something I wonder if the authorities have considered.
