‘Morning-after’ pill available in drugstores next week

Posted by Xeno on November 8, 2006

An over-the-counter “morning-after” pill now being shipped to drug stores should be available to consumers by next week, its manufacturer said Tuesday.planb.jpegThe pill, Plan B, reduces the risk of pregnancy after unprotected sex by 89 percent. It initially was available by prescription only, but this limited its effectiveness — the longer after sex the pill is taken, the less effective it becomes.

Last August, the Food and Drug Administration made Plan B available without prescription to consumers 18 and older. Barr Pharmaceuticals began shipping over-the-counter Plan B packages last Friday, and said the product should be widely available by next week.

There are nearly 3 million unintended pregnancies in the United States each year. On average, a woman has an 8 percent chance of getting pregnant after a single act of unprotected intercourse. Plan B reduces this chance to 1 percent. – chicago

McIntyre: Rumsfeld news surprises Pentagon

Posted by Xeno on November 8, 2006

WASHINGTON (CNN — Donald Rumsfeld is stepping down as defense secretary, President Bush announced Wednesday, a day after voters in the midterm elections expressed dissatisfaction over the handling of the war in Iraq.

160_ap_rumsfeld_061108.jpgBush said he will nominate former CIA director Bob Gates to head the Pentagon. CNN’s Don Lemon spoke to Pentagon correspondent Jamie McIntyre to gauge to mood at the defense headquarters.

LEMON: Jamie, reaction from there?

MCINTYRE: well, don, I can tell you that this came as a bit of a surprise here at the Pentagon, considering the misdirection that President Bush gave last week when he indicated that he expected Donald Rumsfeld to stay till the end of his administration.

The president admitting today that during the last week he had been reconsidering the tenure of Donald Rumsfeld. And he actually had come to the decision, before yesterday’s election results were clear, that Donald Rumsfeld would be replaced, in his words one way or another, that Bob Gates would replace him, the former CIA director.

Most of the people at the Pentagon found out the news this morning as they came in to work during various briefings and phone calls that took place in the course of the morning. – cnn

Rumsfeld, 74, was in his second tour of duty as defence chief. He first held the job a generation ago, when he was appointed by President Ford. – guarduk

“Gates joined the CIA in 1966 and is the only agency employee to rise from an entry level job to the 7th floor director?s office. He served in the intelligence community for more than a quarter century, under six presidents.” – msnbc

Test: Multi Sound file jukebox…

Jukebox Dancer Nunzio’s Automated Jukebox

There are currently 22 songs in the jukebox, all encoded in MP3 format. Some songs are large in size, and although they might take a while to “fully” load for people with dial-up or slower internet connections, that should not propose any problem at all. Why? The music is “streamed” through the use of m3u playlist files and even for people with slower connections, the music will begin streaming immediately, even if the song file is not fully loaded.

See this article for more on how it is done… You can also incorporate the same technique for use on your own website.

Once the automated jukebox starts you can either allow the jukebox to automatically advance and play through each song in sequence without user intervention, or you may jump to any song you like by clicking on the respective song link. Lyrics for each song will be displayed in an auto-scrolling iframe as well.
