Right wing/GOP pundit Laura Ingraham tries to jam DNC voter protection line
Posted by Xeno on November 7, 2006
NOTE FROM JOHN: She’s toast. I want to hear from election lawyers about this. And next I want to know where her show runs and who her advertisers are. Try to shut down voter fraud hotlines the day of the election – your career is over.
Consequences. There really have to be consequences for bad behavior. Like Laura Ingraham. She should be fired. Today, like most of her GOP cohorts, Ingraham engaged in an effort to undermine voting in America.
Laura Ingraham today told her listeners to jam the DNC’s voter protection line. Think Progress has the audio and the transcript:
This is what I?m thinking. Tell me if you think I?m crazy. This is what I?m thinking. I think we all need to call 1 888 DEM VOTE all at the same time.
Listen for yourself here. It’s all a big joke to Laura and the GOP.
A lot of lines — legal and otherwise — have been crossed this year by the GOP and their allies in an effort to suppress the vote. There have to be consequences. – link

Republican Party begins Election Day with 4.5 million-vote theft.
Posted by Xeno on November 7, 2006
Read the details of how the Repugs are stealing millions of votes here, but note:
The regime’s sneak attack via vote suppression will only net them 4.5 million votes, about 5% of the total. You should be able to beat that blindfolded. If you can’t get 55%, then you’re just a bunch of crybaby pussycats who don’t deserve to win back America. – Greg Palast
And we are winning it back tonight! Results here.
The New York Times has an excellent map of election results here. As I write this, the Dems have 49, Repubs 51 with 3 states undecided: Virgina, Montana and Hawaii. Dems are winning big in Hawaii and the other two are close with Dems ahead! If we win all three, that puts the Democrats in control of the Senate as well as the House.
Finally! The will of the people is coming out in election results despite major vote fraud. It’s about time! With all the vote flipping BS it is obvious that the machines ALL need to be smashed to hell by their maker (who can then go to directly to jail) before the next presidential election.

Voter Smashes Dibold Machine in Anger
Posted by Xeno on November 7, 2006
A man who reportedly believed Republicans were conspiring to steal today?s election entered an Allentown polling site, signed in and proceeded to smash the screen of one of the electronic voting machines with a metal cat paperweight, poll volunteers said.
Michael Young, 43, … will be charged with felony criminal mischief and tampering with voting machines, according to Ronald Manescu, chief of investigations for Allentown police.
Police gave no motive, but a source said Young, a registered Independent, believed Republicans had conspired to win the election by using electronic ballots. This is the first time electronic machines are being widely used in a Pennsylvania general election.”He smashed it with the cat?s ears,” said volunteer Jim Govostis, who watched the incident unfold at Raker Center, a nursing home owned by Good Shepherd, around 12:30 p.m.
Young, who brought the paperweight with him, then sat down, hung his head and waited for police, who arrested him without incident.
“He came in here very peaceably and showed his ID,” said volunteer Gladys Pezoldt, “then he got on the machine and just snapped…He was immediately remorseful. When the police came, he got up, turned around and put his hands behind his back.”
Lehigh County Board of Elections Chief Clerk Stacy J. Sterner said votes recorded on the machine were saved. More than 130 people had voted at the site by the time of the incident.
“The good news is that even though the machine is broken, the votes are not lost on the memory card. They have them in custody at the voter registration office,” Sterner said. … The $5,000 machine will have to be replaced, Sterner said. It was one of two in the building. – story

Democrats control the House! Pelosi first female Speaker in history
Posted by Xeno on November 7, 2006
Yes! She seems like a real democrat too. See: Pelosi calls Iraq war a ?grotesque mistake?
Democrats are set to take control of the House of Representatives, according to projections by NBC News.
Two years after a decisive election victory for Bush and his Republicans, Democrats picked up the 15 seats they needed to recapture control of the 435-seat House for the first time since 1994, according to the network.
?I think it’s critical Democrats focus not on payback, but on progress,? Sen. Barack Obama, a Democrat, told NBC News’ Brian Williams as news of the Republican losses emerged through the night.
Sen. John McCain, meanwhile, told Williams the Iraq war was weighing heavily on voters’ minds.
?Of course it’s frustrating … it’s frustrating to all of us,? the Arizona Republican said.
Pelosi as leader?
Based on the projections, Nancy Pelosi will likely be the first female speaker in the House’s 217-year history. As speaker, she will be second in line to succeed the president. Earlier in the evening, the California Democrat predicted, ?We are on the brink of a great Democratic victory.?
Republican incumbents went down in nearly every region of the country. Three GOP congressmen lost in Indiana, two in New Hampshire, one in North Carolina, and a Democrat won an open seat in Arizona.
Ethics woes were clearly taking their toll on the GOP.
Republicans surrendered the Ohio seat once held by Bob Ney, who resigned after pleading guilty in a lobbying scandal, and the Florida seat of Mark Foley, who stepped down after the disclosure that he sent sexually explicit messages to male congressional pages.
In Pennsylvania, Democrats defeated Curt Weldon in the fallout from a federal corruption investigation and Don Sherwood who admitted to a long-term affair with a much younger woman who says he choked her.

‘Silent aircraft’: How it works
Posted by Xeno on November 7, 2006
Engineers from the University of Cambridge and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have unveiled a radical design for a “silent aircraft”. The team says any noise from the concept aircraft, known as the SAX-40, would be “imperceptible” beyond the boundaries of an airport. It would also burn far less fuel than conventional planes. …
The shape of the plane is what is known as a “blended wing” design. This hybrid design uses the wings of a conventional plane smoothly blended into a wide tailless body.
The improved lift also means that the plane can do away with flaps on the wings, which are a major source of airframe noise on conventional aircraft.
Because the design does not need a tail, used to provide additional lift and stability on conventional craft, it also cuts down on turbulent airflow and noise from the back of the plane.
The design, made of lightweight composites, also improves the fuel efficiency of the craft whilst cruising. …
By embedding the three engines in the aircraft frame, it also reduces drag and therefore noise.
The “ultra-high bypass ratio turbofans”, as they are known, are also arranged in a novel way to minimise noise output.

Here’s what I say: Bring ‘em on!
