Amtrak riders given 27th annual, uh, thrill

Posted by Xeno on July 9, 2006

Some fun amusement in a place just south of Los Angeles, CA called Laguna Niguel.

Hundreds of people bare their behinds to them in the 27th mooning of trains.? Once they were a bunch ? a small bunch ? of crazies. Now they are a nation.09moon_md.jpgYou had ladies from the Red Hat Society standing next to members of the Hessians motorcycle gang, standing next to a group of nudists, standing next to a 70-year-old (normally sedate) mom standing next to an avowed libertarian.

All laughing, chatting and waving. With their pants down. And their behinds up against a chain-link fence every time an Amtrak train passed.

“It’s the greatest feeling in the world,” said Robin Felton, 52, of Anaheim, a manager for ICC in Cerritos. “I pay my taxes. I follow the laws. I pay the high gas prices. This is my one day to say, ‘I live with it, but you know what guys? Here. Have a little of it back. Here’s to everything I don’t like.’ “

BOTTOMS UP: First-time mooner Carol Wichenheisser, 72, left, joins the fun Saturday morning in Laguna Niguel to celebrate the 27th annual mooning of Amtrak, an event that attracted thousands and lasted all day.? … Kids sold lemonade. Motor homes raised American flags, tiki torches flared and smoke issued from barbecue pits. Rock bands drove in from Vegas,. Vendors hawked jewelry and T-shirts from booths.more

Aviation history is made. Jubilant designer’s ornithopter flight caps 30-year dream.

Posted by Xeno on July 9, 2006

Yesterday Dr. James DeLaurier, an aeronautical engineer and professor emeritus at the University of Toronto’s Institute for Aerospace Studies, fulfilled a lifelong dream, seeing his manned mechanical flapping-wing airplane, or ornithopter, fly ? 060709_flapper_plane_300.jpga dream first imagined by Leonardo da Vinci. And with the successful flight DeLaurier has been lucky enough to touch what many describe as the Holy Grail of aeronautical design, achieving a place for himself, his team of volunteers and students in aviation history. … Humanity has always been fascinated by the idea of man flying like a bird. The Greeks told mythic tales about Daedalus and Icarus who fled the Labyrinth on wings of wax and feathers. Da Vinci was so fascinated with the idea he conceived an elaborate plan for an ornithopter ? a design that, DeLaurier said, would never fly because the materials would be too heavy. And so DeLaurier was moved to build what many have thought impossible ? a manned engine-powered, flapping-wing airplane that would take off unaided.

Here is a large video of when they tried in 1999. Pretty awesome to watch.

Victim was child of 14, not young woman of 25.

Posted by Xeno on July 9, 2006

It makes me angry that the media still calls the main victim of the U.S. soldier rape-slaying a “young Iraqi woman” when she was 14 years old. That’s a *child* according to US law, not a young woman. This soldier and his accomplices raped a child, killed that child and burned her to try to hide the evidence. Now, “Four more U.S. soldiers have been charged with rape and murder” according to ABCNews. “… a doctor at the Mahmoudiya hospital gave her age as 14. He refused to be identified for fear of reprisals.” According to the scotsman, “… Her identity card and death certificate, however, show she was 14.”

So, our military contains armed gangs of murderous pedophiles. Obviously, one hopes this is tremendously rare, but I’ve read in many places that women and children were also raped, tortured and murdered in Abu Ghraib. This is why they wouldn’t release all the photos.

“Other witnesses interviewed by the Guardian have said that US guards “repeatedly” raped a 14-year-old Iraqi girl who was held in the block last year.” – guardian

To cover up the facts, the Iraqi girls are called “women” and “prostitutes” when they are mentioned at all. There are/were also children held at Guantanamo. That’s insane. How can that happen? Monsters! Release the children! Stop the torutre, shut down Guantanamo!
These are reasons I get so completely pissed off when my conservative head-in-the-sand friends say things like, “I support what we are doing over there.” They have no idea about these horrors. They don’t want to know. Go ahead, try to tell them. They will freak out, shut down, get angry at you, walk away, make excuses, *anything* to avoid confronting the horrible truth: they supported a war which is resulting in the rape, torture and killing of innocent children by our military. This is a war OF terror, not a war ON terror, and we are the ones doing the most terrorizing. End the war. Impeach Bush before his evil team can defeat our remaining liberties.
